Children and young people

We work with children and young people and their families across Cambridge, organising activities in local neighbourhoods in response to need.

Our Children and Young People’s Participation Service, known as ChYpPS, delivers our PlayDaze summer-holiday programme as well as free term-time and holiday activities.

We provide fun activities with a focus on play and creativity. We encourage social, emotional and physical well-being through encouraging children to build relationships and offering new experiences. We believe this helps children and young people to develop self-esteem and life skills.

ChYpPS also runs PlayEast, which provides a range of play services across the eastern region:

  • Scrapstore provides recycled materials as low-cost creative resources for use in arts, crafts and play projects
  • Scrapstore playpods, sheds at schools containing scrap materials for children to play with at lunchtime
  • Children’s parties for under-fives, using the amazing soft-play equipment at Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre

PlayEast also provides professional training for people working with children and and young people. Available courses are safeguarding children and an introduction to playwork.

Membership costs as little as £5 per year – find out how to apply for PlayEast membership.

The income that we generate from PlayEast supports the delivery of free, open-access play in Cambridge.

ChYpPS manage and are based at Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre in north Cambridge.
