We support apprentices to develop the skills and experience they need to succeed and progress in their roles. This includes opportunities for existing staff as well as recruiting new apprentices into some vacant positions.

An apprenticeship combines practical, on-the-job experience with structured learning towards a recognised qualification. It allows you to earn while you learn, building your knowledge, skills and experience in a specific role.
Where possible, we offer permanent roles to apprentices who were recruited externally. We pay all apprentices the Real Living Wage, or more where the role grading applies.
We offer apprenticeship opportunities across the organisation at a range of qualification levels. Current apprenticeships include:
- Accountant
- Building Control Surveyor
- Data Analyst
- Environmental Health Practitioner
- Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician
- Regulatory Compliance Officer
Why choose an apprenticeship?
Earn while you learn: gain practical experience while earning a salary.
Develop your career: build transferable skills and improve career prospects – many apprentices go on to secure permanent roles or progress within the organisation.
Gain a recognised qualification: achieve a nationally recognised, work-based qualification that can be taken with you throughout your career.
Build work experience: build relevant, hands-on experience which helps develop confidence and skills by applying what you’re learning in a real working environment.
Flexible and inclusive learning: apprenticeships are available at any age and stage of your career. They are designed to fit around your role, with 20% of your working week dedicated to off-the-job paid learning time to work towards your qualification.

Annika Lilley: People Advisor
I am completing the CIPD Level 5 People Professional apprenticeship, which has been a really positive and rewarding experience. The apprenticeship has helped me build confidence, strengthen my skills and develop as an HR professional.
Partway through my apprenticeship, I took a year’s break in learning for maternity leave and felt fully supported throughout. Returning to work and study was straightforward and reassuring. Being able to pause, return and continue developing demonstrates how flexible and well-suited the apprenticeship route is for balancing professional development and family commitments.
The apprenticeship has deepened my knowledge in employee relations, employment law and evidence-based HR practice, with learning that can be applied directly in my role. This practical approach has increased my confidence and effectiveness in my day-to-day work.
I have benefited greatly from the support of my manager, team and training provider, whose encouragement, flexibility and structured learning have been key to my progress. In 2025, I was proud to receive a ‘highly commended’ Apprentice of the Year award at the staff awards, which felt like fantastic recognition from my organisation of my commitment and development.
Overall, the apprenticeship has provided a strong foundation for my HR career while supporting learning that fits around family life and changing priorities.
Sammyjo McEvoy: Area Building Control Surveyor
I completed a level-three built environment construction course in 2006/07, and shortly after chose to raise a family. Once they appeared more settled at school I decided to return to my career path.
When I saw the opportunity to achieve this, I jumped at the chance. I joined 3C Building Control in 2021 as an Area Building Control Surveyor and began completing an apprenticeship with Wolverhampton University.
This has given me the opportunity to learn and fill any gaps in my knowledge. I have been able to expand my skills and learning patterns.
It has been very challenging with the changes in the construction industry, particularly in Building Control, with the new and amended legislation and regime under a new regulator.
I have overcome this with the support of my team at work and family at home. I have pushed myself to become a Class 2A Registered Building Inspector and I am in my final year of a BSc (Hons) Building Control degree. As daunting as it may sound, I welcome my dissertation and my end-point assessment, which concludes with an interview for chartered membership to CABE and CIOB.
I feel proud of what I have been able to achieve, with the support of my team and the wider organisation, and I am incredibly proud to be able to inspire other women of all ages into the construction industry and apprenticeships.
