Public Art SPD

Since the adoption of the Public Art SPD in 2010, the council has refined the way it identifies new projects and has adapted to changing rules on S106 contributions. See our approach to public art.

The purpose of the Public Art Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is to guide the council in creating and providing public art in Cambridge.

The Public Art SPD supports city-wide Local Plan policy 3/7 (Creating Successful Places). It is a requirement of development in the urban extensions (Local Plan policy 9/3), the Station Area (Local Plan policy 9/9) and is a development principle in the Cambridge East Area Action Plan (Policy CE/2) and the North West Area Action Plan (Policy NW22).

Formal Notice of Adoption

The Public Art SPD was adopted at the Environment Scrutiny Committee on 12 January 2010.

Adoption of the Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) followed a period of public consultation, which took place from 14 April to 26 May 2009.

The consultation led to a number of changes being made to the draft SPD. The adopted SPD can be viewed by selecting the link below, along with the other documents associated with the adoption of the document:

Sustainability Appraisal

The Public Art Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been subject to Sustainability Appraisal. This is to ensure that the proposals contained in the document can be considered in light of information on their social, economic and environmental impacts.

The Sustainability Appraisal was made available for consultation at the same time as the draft SPD, and was reviewed following consultation and in the light of subsequent changes made to the SPD.
