On Thursday 13 November, Cambridge City Council brought together Cambridge-based charities and Cambridge University Colleges for the Charity Showcase and College Partnerships event at Storey’s Field Centre.

The event was a celebration of what has already been achieved through this method of partnering which sees Cambridge colleges support local charities in an effort to give back to the local community.

Since the inaugural meeting in March 2024, the initiative has successfully connected 12 colleges with 17 local charities and community organisations.

These partnerships are designed to foster long-term, mutually beneficial relationships through the sharing of volunteers, venues, expertise and resources.

It was also an opportunity for the remaining Cambridge College’s that are yet to match with a local organisation to get to know them and understand more about the work they deliver across the city.

Charities showcased their work and shared insights into their partnerships with colleges. Attendees heard from organisations about the impact of these collaborations, including increased visibility, volunteer support and access to college facilities.

Cllr Cameron Holloway, Leader of Cambridge City Council, said: “This initiative is about building bridges and reducing inequalities – between the city’s institutions and its residents, and between resources and need. By enabling colleges and charities to develop mutually beneficial relationships, we’re helping to create a fairer city.

“Cambridge City Council is committed to bringing people and organisations together to work towards the shared goal of One Cambridge, Fair for All.”

Cllr Jenny Gawthrope Wood, Lead Councillor for Academic Liaison, said: “We know that many of our local charities are small in size but huge in impact. Through these partnerships, colleges can offer meaningful support – whether through volunteers, venues or expertise – and help these organisations thrive.
