Queen Anne Terrace cycle parking upgrade

Works begin on Monday 7 July – Duration: approximately six weeks

Cambridge City Council and the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) are jointly investing in improvements to the cycle parking facilities at Queen Anne Terrace Car Park. This project, led by the city council, will enhance both the covered cycle parking area and the external cycle parking near the car park entrance.

The improvements will provide increased cycle parking capacity, better accessibility, and enhanced security, which are key steps in encouraging active travel, promoting sustainable transport, and restoring public confidence in the facility.

The scheme has been developed over several years, shaped by public consultation in 2021 and further engagement in 2024. Throughout this process, the city council has worked closely with partners including the GCP, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Active Travel team, CamCycle, and Cambridgeshire Police. Their input has informed the design, focusing on accessibility, safety, layout, CCTV coverage, and environmental impact.

Following a competitive tender process, All About Civils Ltd. (AAC) has been appointed to carry out the works.

Every effort will be made to deliver these long-awaited improvements efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to the public and surrounding areas.

The works started on 7 July and are expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

During this period, there will be temporary disruption to cycle parking, and pedestrian and vehicular access routes. Signage and barriers will be in place to guide visitors safely around the works, and where possible, a limited number of cycle stands will remain available. Alternative cycle stands are located along Mill Road, and on the corner of Parker’s Piece near the University Arms. The nearest covered cycle park is at Park Street.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these improvements are delivered.
