Cambridge City Council

Housing Scrutiny Committee: Elected tenant and leaseholder representatives

Our Housing Scrutiny Committee monitors our work regularly, to ensure money is being well spent and services are of a good standard.

The committee includes five elected council tenants and one leaseholder. These representatives help make decisions on how we run our housing service. Their contribution ensures residents are considered in every decision the committee makes.

The representatives can each claim an annual allowance of up to £1,218, depending on the amount of time they give to the role.

Cambridge is one of the few councils in the country that has residents involved as such a high level.

Representatives must adhere to the tenant and leaseholder code of conduct [PDF, 0.1MB].

Tenant and leaseholder elections

All council tenants and leaseholders can vote for who represents them on the committee. Elections take place every four years.

The application process for the next election closes on 24 January 2024.

There will be six elected positions on the committee, for five tenants and one leaseholder.

Read the autumn 2023 edition of Open Door magazine to find out how to stand for election. Contact us if you have any questions.

For more information, read the role description [PDF, 0.2MB].
