We carry out a review when somebody aged 16 or older dies because of abuse, violence or neglect by a relative, intimate partner or member of the same household.
The review is called a Domestic Abuse Related Death Review. It was previously known as a Domestic Homicide Review.
The Cambridge Community Safety Partnership is responsible for commissioning these reviews in Cambridge. It appoints an independent chairperson to carry out the review.
The purpose of each review is to:
- establish what lessons can be learned regarding how local professionals and organisations can safeguard victims
- identify how and when these lessons will be acted on, and what is expected to change as a result
- apply the lessons to service responses, including changes to policies and procedures
- prevent domestic abuse, homicides and suicides, and improve service responses for all victims and their children
Family members, friends and colleagues of the victim are important to the review process, and can be part of the process if they want to be. Involving all these people gives us a more complete view of the life of the individual concerned.
Below are the domestic homicide reviews that the partnership has commissioned:
- Sarah (November 2023)
- Yasmina (May 2018)
