The following applications were considered at the meeting of Cambridge City Council’s Planning Committee, held on Wednesday 2 September 2026 at the Guildhall, Cambridge. 

  • To refurbish the Market Square, Peas Hill and Guildhall Street, including installing cycle parking, replace and relocate the permanent and temporary market stalls, and repairing the historic stone paving and the fountain.

  • Listed Building Consent to refurbish the Market Square, Peas Hill and Guildhall Street, including installing cycle parking, replace and relocate the permanent and temporary market stalls, and repairing the historic stone paving and the fountain.

  • To knock down 87 to 89 Oxford Road and two stores in Castle and replace with student accommodation, partly changing the use and refurbishing the existing Red Cottage student accommodation and building a new squash court and groundskeeper storage building.

  • To replace 12 floodlights at the university sports and athletics track on Wilberforce Road, Newnham with new LED floodlights.

  • To build five temporary modular homes to provide accommodation for homeless people and an office for support staff in the rear garden space of 23 to 27 Kings Hedges Road.

  • To build a single storey home with a basement on the land adjacent to 49 New Square, Market.

  • To partly remove the boundary wall to Willow Walk, Market to create a parking area, and to New Square to form a pedestrian gate.
