June marks Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) History Month, a national celebration that has taken place each year since 2008. It is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, while raising awareness, challenging prejudice and amplifying voices.
This year’s national theme is ‘Onwards with Hope’, focusing on the aspirations and futures of Gypsy, Roma, Irish Traveller, Showmen and other nomadic communities, and encouraging us all to reflect on how we can build a more inclusive future together.
To mark GRT History Month, Cambridge City Council will be flying the Romani flag at the Guildhall throughout June, recognising the importance of this national awareness month and reaffirming our commitment to equality and diversity in Cambridge.
The council continues to work with partners and local communities to support Gypsy, Roma and Traveller residents throughout the year providing support, delivering activities and helping connect families with services.
