Cambridge’s Fireworks Night, the largest free event in the region, will take place on Midsummer Common, from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 1 November with the first rockets due to go up at 7pm.
Organised and provided by Cambridge City Council, the event is supported by city businesses and organisations: Illumina, Astra Zeneca, RBC Brewin Dolphin, Redgate, Qualcomm, Cambridge BID, Jesus College, Trinity College, Peasgood & Skeates and media partner, Cambridge Radio.
Cllr Antoinette Nestor, Cabinet Member for Culture Economy and Skills, said: “Cambridge’s Fireworks Night is one of the most special events in the year.
“It's a rare opportunity for thousands of people from across every part of the city to share together in the unique excitement and magic of this wonderful event; nothing compares to the anticipation and hush settling on Midsummer Common just before the display begins!
“And with music before and after the fireworks, plus stunning walkabout acts, this year’s event promises to be a brilliant Saturday night out.”
Mark Robinson, Vice President & General Manager, UK & Ireland at Illumina, said: “Cambridge’s Fireworks Night is a truly special community celebration. It brings thousands of people together to share in the joy of an incredible display and a sense of connection across the city. Illumina is proud to support this event for the fourth consecutive year, and we encourage others to join us in keeping this cherished tradition free and accessible for all.”
Regarded as the safest and very best way to enjoy Fireworks Night, the event is one of Cambridge’s longest running and best-loved community traditions, drawing thousands to Midsummer Common to watch together as the night sky is transformed into a breathtaking and magical kaleidoscope of colour and light.
The event will take place at the weekend to ensure as many as possible are able to attend and people don’t miss out. Creating this year’s multi award-winning will be Pains Fireworks, established in 1862 and the oldest fireworks display company in the UK.
Tom Cranmer from Pains said: ‘"This year’s display at Midsummer Common will be amazing as we fill the sky with colour, noise and light! The show will be filled with a variety of new effects as the audience are wowed by the combination of colours and noises that fill the sky."
As well as the display itself, people can also look forward to an array of food trucks serving delicious street food, plus music and walkabout acts between 6pm to 8.30pm.
Making a return visit to Cambridge – this time illuminated for Fireworks Night - is Autin Dance Theatre’s spectacular 13-foot puppet from Out of the Blue and five puppeteers, who stopped everyone in their tracks during the summer’s Out of the Ordinary outdoor arts festival.
Large numbers of people are anticipated, so please allow plenty of time for your journey, arrive early and wherever possible walk, cycle, or use public transport. Additional Park and Ride services will be available for the evening. The display begins at 7pm. There will be no bonfire.
