A NEW 15-metre multi-track water slide has been officially opened at the Abbey Leisure Complex swimming pool in Cambridge and residents are being encouraged to try out the new slide over the half term holiday.

Deputy Mayor of Cambridge City Council, Cllr Jenny Gawthrope Wood, opened the slide on Sunday 23 October, taking a turn on the slide herself.

She said: “It’s fantastic news that the team has completed the works in time for people to enjoy the slide over half term and I hope people will come and do so. The slide is ideal, great fun for youngsters and I enjoyed it too!”

Cllr Alex Collis, Executive Councillor for Open Spaces, Food Justice and Community Development, said: “Thanks to the team who have made this happen, it’s great to see something fun for people to do together.

“And with children able to swim for £1 at Abbey Leisure Complex before 10am on weekdays during the school holidays – or before 10am on weekends during term time – the addition of the slide makes swimming a really affordable and fun activity for families during half term.”

Callum Lewis, Better Abbey Leisure Complex Assistant Manager, said: “Thank you to customers for their patience while we completed the installation. The slide is a wonderful new feature for the pool.

“As it’s multi-track, you can race your friends or family down side-by-side, which should ensure lots of fun for all the family throughout the year.”

Customers can check the Better/GLL website to view the pool timetable.
