Cambridge City Council

Statement on commercial units available to rent on Akeman Street

4 October 2022

In response to an enquiry from the media we issued the following response about the commercial units on Akeman Street that are available to rent.

Cllr Mike Davey, Executive Councillor for Finance, Resources and Transformation, said: “The three newbuild units on Akeman Street are modern and spacious, with good energy performance credentials and an attractive frontage; with negotiable lease terms and very reasonable asking rents – so we would have expected the units would have been snapped up by now. The council has recently engaged Cambridge agents Eddisons to market the properties, which has resulted in new interest and viewings. We will work with prospective tenants to help get their business established and are offering financial assistance for the initial fit-out costs which we hope will make it easier for businesses to take advantage of the new units.”

The executive councillor leading on this matter is Cllr Mike Davey (Labour), Executive Councillor for Finance, Resources and Transformation. Spokespersons for the other political groups on this issue are Cllr Tim Bick (Liberal Democrat) and Cllr Naomi Bennett (Green/Independent Group).
