Every year we take part in the international Love Your Local Market celebration, which promotes local markets’ values.
The annual celebration began in 2012 as a one-day event. It has grown to become a global campaign – more than 3,000 events were held in 17 countries in 2018.
Love Your Local Market 2019 runs from 17 to 31 May. The theme is ‘Markets: Close to your heart’. It focuses on the idea of markets as the beating hearts of the community.
- Friday 24 May, 6 to 10.30pm on Market Square: Night market and outdoor cinema – In conjunction with Cambridge Bid we’ll be showing Coco and Mamma Mia! on a big screen.
- Saturday 25 May, 10am to 4pm at All Saints’ Garden: ‘We Make What We Sell’ showcase – Traders will demonstrate how they produce their products, including pottery, jewellery, prints, woodwork and more. Meet and chat with a variety of skilled artists and makers about their work and techniques.
- Thursday 30 May, 10am to 4pm on Market Square: International Food Day – Hot-food traders from around the world will bring their culinary talents to the market for you to experience.
Love Your Local Market is led by the National Association of British Market Authorities and backed by the government and the wider market industry.
