The government announced on 28 October 2026 there will be a one-off £100 Household Energy Payment to households in Council Tax bands A to D in England, to help with their energy costs.
Cambridge City Council will be using existing Council Tax Direct Debit details to make payments to eligible residents in Council Tax band A to D wherever possible.
The payments are expected to be made early 2027.
We will publish further details about the Household Energy Payment, including eligibility criteria and payment arrangements, as soon as government guidance is available.
Pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit
If you currently pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, there is no need to contact us.
If you are eligible for the Household Energy Payment, we will use the bank account details we already hold to issue the payment quickly and securely.
Using existing Direct Debit information means that payments can be made faster and reduces the need for residents to complete additional forms or provide bank details.
Don’t pay by Direct Debit
If you do not currently pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit and have a liability to pay, we encourage you to sign up for a Direct Debit now.
