Constitution

The purpose of the Constitution is to set out the rules that govern how the council works.

The Constitution:

  • contains rules setting out the processes by which decisions are made
  • states who is responsible for making decisions
  • contains the rules governing the conduct of meetings
  • includes a variety of rules, codes and procedures relating to the council's finances, employment practices, and buying, selling and letting contracts

The Constitution is updated regularly. We recommend that you download the latest version (either the full document or individual sections) each time you need it, rather than keeping a saved copy.

  • Download the Constitution [PDF, 4MB]
  • Individual sections of the Constitution, also the most updated version are available below.

Copies can be ordered from Democratic Services (email democratic.services@cambridge.gov.uk) with a charge for printing and postage. Alternatively, a copy is available to read at the Guildhall.
