The planning applications were considered by the Planning Committee on 25 March 2026.
The applications for the Guildhall and Corn Exchange were approved.
The Market Square and public realm applications were deferred to allow the project team to refine the detail of some elements of the proposals relating to road safety, cycle parking and traffic regulation orders, before being brought back to Planning Committee for determination in June 2026.
The project team is continuing to refine the wider proposals for the whole Civic Quarter, ahead of a further decision on whether to proceed with the project being taken by Cabinet and Full Council in autumn 2026.
