Civic Quarter planning applications

Planning Committee has now determined the three main planning applications related to the Civic Quarter project which have all been approved.

A further application related to the temporary market which would operate during any construction on the Market Square has been submitted to Greater Cambridge Shared Planning.

Approved applications

All three main planning applications for the Civic Quarter project were considered at Planning Committee on 25 March 2026. The applications related to the Guildhall and Corn Exchange were approved - you can see these below:

The applications related to the Market Square and public realm were deferred. These were considered by Planning Committee on 2 September 2026 and were approved. You can see these below:

Live planning application

To ensure market traders can continue to trade during the 12 months of construction on the Market Square, we are proposing to operate a temporary market for the duration of the works.

The planning application for the temporary market has been submitted to Greater Cambridge Shared Planning and is now (10 September 2026) live on the GCSP portal:

GCSP is consulting on this planning application until 7 October and comments should be made through the GCSP portal linked above.
