Littering is a crime, for which we can issue a £75 fixed penalty notice to anybody caught spoiling the streets by not using a litter bin.
- You can also report needles and drug-related litter
Litter from businesses and on private land
We can serve notices to the occupiers of business premises or private land requiring them to clear it, and take steps to prevent it from becoming defaced by litter again.
It is a criminal offence not to comply with such a notice, and the maximum penalty on conviction is £2,500 for individuals or £20,000 for businesses.
We work with Keep Britain Tidy to encourage smokers to dispose of their cigarette ends responsibly.
Our message is: no butts – stub it, bin it.
Businesses in Cambridge can pledge to support our voluntary litter code to help keep the city clean.
