Register of taxi licence refusals and revocations

The Local Government Association keeps a national register of all refused and revoked taxi licences. We use it to help check your fitness and propriety to drive a taxi.

When you apply for a taxi licence, we check whether you’re listed on the register. And if we refuse your application or revoke your licence, we add basic details about you to the register.

If we find your details on the register when you apply, we’ll contact the authority that listed you. If they share more information with us, we will use that to help us decide whether to grant you a licence. We will not refuse you a licence just because you are listed on the register.

Data protection and privacy

Data is kept on the register for 25 years. The register includes:

  • your name, date of birth, current address and contact details
  • your National Insurance and driving licence numbers
  • the decision made, and the date it came into effect

The National Anti-Fraud Network manages the register for the Local Government Association. We are registered with them.

Licence suspensions are not recorded on the register.

We’ll tell you that we’re adding your details to the register if we refuse or revoke your licence.

You can make a subject access request to the National Anti-Fraud Network at any time to see if you are listed.
