Our Licensing team is working hard to ensure we support the government’s efforts and heed its advice, while still providing the trade with the necessary licensing services.
We will not be conducting face-to-face appointments until further notice, and we have made changes to the way we will process licences.
Please read below for information regarding changes that may affect you.
All new driver applications and registrations have been put on hold. If you have previously booked an appointment with us, we’ll reschedule it as soon as possible.
We have cancelled our safeguarding and knowledge tests until the end of May, and are currently not taking bookings.
If you are due to renew your licence, please contact our customer service centre on 01223 457888. They will take your licence fee, so please have your card details ready.
You will then be sent an email with a compact version of the application, which we will now accept by email. You will receive clear instructions of what you need to do next.
If you are already in the process of your driver renewal, when you have received your DBS, please send a copy to firstname.lastname@example.org along with proof you have signed up to the DBS update service.
Please follow previous timescales for renewing your licence, ensuring you submit your application and required documentation before your licence expiry.
When we have received your application form and required documentation, we will process your application and send you your licence and PDF version of your badge via email.
If you are due to have a medical before the end of June you will have a three-month extension, from the date of expiry. We are aware that there are difficulties booking medical appointments, due to the added pressure on the NHS currently.
Please book your required appointment prior to the expiry of the extended date. If you have had a recent medical but have not yet sent it into us, please email the whole document to email@example.com.
New vehicle applications have been put on hold.
If your vehicle falls into the below categories, please contact the licensing team and complete the relevant application form, sending it to firstname.lastname@example.org:
- Vehicle is too old to be renewed and new vehicle to be put on plate.
- Current vehicle is off the road due to accident damage
- You have purchased a new vehicle prior to 1 April 2020 (and can provide proof)
- Current vehicle has been part exchanged (and you can provide proof)
If you are due to renew your licence, contact our customer service centre on 01223 457888. Our advisor will email you a new compact application form along with clear instructions on what to do next. Within the email you will be asked to return the completed application form along with additional documentation that we require via email to email@example.com.
When you call us you will be required to pay the licence fee, so please have your card details ready when calling.

If you have already made an appointment for your vehicle renewal, please contact customer services, and they will be able to advise you accordingly.
When we have received your application form and required documentation, we will process your application and send you your licence and PDF version of vehicle plate via email.
Please print the vehicle plate and display it in the rear window, and for private hire display the front plate on the passenger side of the front windscreen. During this time, you must continue to display your expired plate.
We will arrange for you to pick up your hard plate when we resume face-to-face appointments.
Certificates of compliance
If your current Certificate of Compliance expires between 30 March and 30 June 2020, the following changes apply:
If your vehicle is due its mid-year certificate between 30 March and 30 June 2020, you do not need to book an appointment with the garage. We will write to you to confirm your current certificate is extended to the expiry of your current vehicle license.
Vehicle renewal certificates
If your vehicle is up for renewal between 30 March and 30 June 2020, you do not need to book an appointment with the garage. We will issue you a 6 month extension on your current certificate, when issuing your licence and plate.
Change of ownership
If you would like to complete a change of ownership, you can email an application or any queries you may have to firstname.lastname@example.org. However, we are currently unable to add anyone to a plate if they have not undertaken the safeguarding course.
