New community engagement team

Our new Streets and Open Spaces Community Engagement team works to ensure that residents, visitors and businesses can play an active role in their local environment.

The team works with organisations and community groups to support their work to improve the local environment, and helps supports key projects. It works with a range of existing and emerging community groups to understand their needs and priorities and how we can best address them.

Contact the team at sosvolunteers@cambridge.gov.uk or 01223 458084. You can also follow @CambStreetScene on Twitter.

Team work

  • Volunteers: We recruit and manage volunteers in our volunteer schemes, working on events such as litter picking, volunteer training and events to improve local neighbourhoods.
  • Community payback: We organise and manage work parties with community payback to carry out community projects such as pavement clearing, large scale tidy ups and painting.
  • Local nature reserves: We work with the nature reserves ranger to increase the volunteer role of the local nature reserves across the city, and to create opportunities for community and corporate groups.
  • Environmental education: We work with youth groups, community group and schools, from primary to senior ages. We offer classroom based learning and practical sessions to teach about our work and how they can help the environment themselves.
  • Environmental campaigns: We work in conjunction with the other Streets and Open Spaces teams to deliver campaigns on environmental issues, such as littering and dog fouling, to bring about positive change to the city.
  • Abandoned bikes: We investigate and remove abandoned bikesfrom public land across the city.
  • Shopping trolleys: We investigate and remove abandoned shopping trolleys from public land across the city.
