Cambridge City Council

Statement on former city councillor for Trumpington

8 July 2022

This statement is published further to reports in the media on this matter:

A spokesperson for Cambridge City Council said: “These are very serious criminal charges.

“Mr Cox resigned from his role as a city councillor on 28 June and is no longer a member of the council.

“The charges do not relate to his duties as a city councillor and do not involve council premises. He did not have a council issued laptop or phone.

“We can confirm that our safeguarding procedures were followed in relation to this matter and that the city council has cooperated fully with the investigating authorities.”

A by-election will be held in Trumpington ward on Thursday 18 August.
