Mayor's Day Out returns - outing for local senior citizens to include cream tea at Guildhall

News release from 8 September 2021

MAYOR’S Day Out returns in 2021 with a twist. On Tuesday 28 September, Cambridge senior citizens will be offered the choice of touring the beautiful Cambridge University Botanic Garden or world-renowned King’s College, followed by cream tea at the Guildhall and a chance to meet Cllr Russ McPherson, Mayor of Cambridge.

Mayor’s Day Out is a longstanding Cambridge tradition in which the Mayor joins local senior citizens on a visit to a seaside town. Unfortunately, last year’s event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, Cambridge City Council has organised a day out to visit some of the city’s most beautiful sights.

“Getting to lead Mayor’s Day Out is a highlight of the office and I am delighted we can bring it back for 2021,” said Cllr McPherson. “It is a treasured chance for local residents to meet up with old friends, make new acquaintances, and enjoy a day out in good company.”

Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Mayor's Day Out is a great initiative and we were all sorry it couldn't happen last year. I want to thank the Mayor and officers for the creative way in which they've come up with a local approach this year, and I hope that everyone has a really wonderful time at the event.”

Participants have the choice of a self-guided visit to King’s College or the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, with visits at 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm, followed by a cream tea at the Guildhall and a live performance by former mayor, John Woodhouse.

Tickets cost £7, with a limited number of £5 tickets available to those on restricted incomes, and are now on sale at: https://www.cambridgelive.org.uk/city-events/events/mayors-day-out

Tickets can also be booked in person at the Cambridge Live Tickets box office in Wheeler Street on 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th or 15th September from 12pm-4pm, or by ringing 01223 791 766 weekdays from 9th-24th September from 12pm-4pm.
