CAMBRIDGE residents are being invited to get online to keep fit and healthy in the new year, and join in for free with Cambridge City Council’s first ever virtual fitness festival.
On Saturday 9-Sunday 10 January, Cambridge residents can join in at home with the Healthy You Virtual Festival, a weekend of free fitness, nutrition and wellbeing sessions.
The festival aims to help residents get 2021 started on the right foot and give people an idea of the scope of health and fitness opportunities available throughout the year in Cambridge.
The sessions will be hosted on Youtube and Facebook, with some workshops on Zoom. They will all be led by locally-based instructors and organisations, and are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
Among the sessions on offer across the weekend are dance, pilates, circuits, chair-based activities, tai chi and core strengthening plus workshops in nutrition, preventing running injuries, and meditation.
Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “I know from personal experience how hard it’s been to keep active during lockdown, especially if you are having to isolate. This virtual festival is a great way of kick-starting the new year, and that’s going to be especially welcome after the holiday season.
“It will give people taking part the opportunity to try something new or get back to something they’ve tried before, and will hopefully give everyone plenty of inspiration and ideas for staying active and healthy during the rest of 2021. I’ll certainly be signing up for some workshops, and I hope that lots of people will join me.”
