Cambridge City Council

Grants available for groups helping disadvantaged residents

News release from 16 December 2020

GROUPS planning local projects that help disadvantaged people are invited to apply for grants from Cambridge City Council.

Non-profit, voluntary and community organisations, or groups of local residents, may be eligible to apply for a council Area Committee Grant.

Grants are typically awarded to support activities such as venue hire for initiatives that involve community, arts or sports, transport for trips by disabled, younger or older residents and materials for art projects.

Applications most likely to be successful will show how activities will reduce social and/or economic inequality for disadvantaged residents, the overall objective of the council’s Anti-poverty Strategy.

Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Local groups are the backbone of our community work and as we have seen during the coronavirus pandemic we have many strong, committed and creative organisations in Cambridge.

“The council remains committed to funding activities that support those people who are in greatest need in our city and I am proud that we continue to do so.

“Area committee grants, alongside our other grant schemes, are part of a package of support that I know makes a real difference to people’s lives. I encourage community groups that meet the criteria to make an application.”

Applications should be submitted to one of the council’s four area committees for projects or activities that will take place between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.

Deadlines for applications are:

  • 25 January for North Area Committee
  • 27 January for South Area Committee
  • 1 February for West/ Central Area Committee
  • 8 February for East Area Committee

Councillors will decide on the grant applications that are received at the respective Area Committee meetings in March.
