City council saddened by death of honorary councillor

News release from 23/12/2019

CAMBRIDGE City Council has expressed its sadness at the death of Honorary Councillor Caroline Hart.

Caroline Hart served on the city council for 17 years, standing down less than a year ago.

She was a ward councillor for Abbey from 2002-2019 and served on a number of committees including Planning, Licensing, Civic Affairs and City Centre Development (overseeing the Grand Arcade scheme) before moving to Littleport.  She was also the Deputy Mayor from 2011-12.

The council expresses its sincere condolences to Hon Cllr Hart’s family.

Cllr Lewis Herbert, Leader of the Council, said: “Caroline was at the heart of Abbey and always had Abbey ward in her heart, living there for decades and fighting for the interests of local people as their councillor. She took that responsibility very seriously and was so proud to represent her community.

“We will miss her friendship very much, and our thoughts are with her husband Bruce and son Robert, including at the times when there will now only be the two of them shouting on the U’s at the Abbey Stadium. Caroline was very respected for her committee work, where her considered and wise words were always valued, as has been shown by the sympathies expressed by current and past councillors of all parties.”
