MAYOR of Cambridge, Cllr Nigel Gawthrope, will take part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 28 September and is encouraging people to take part in similar events in their neighbourhood.
The mayor will attend one of the charity’s nationwide coffee mornings, which is being hosted by Marshall on Newmarket Road at 9am.
With other events set to take place in Cambridge, the mayor is offering to visit as many events as he can on 28 September. Any coffee morning organisers can get in touch with his office if they would like him to attend.
The mayor will also visit Cambridge 105 Radio at Gwydir Street Enterprise Centre, to take part in the station’s Macmillan Coffee Morning events.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest annual fundraising event for people facing cancer.
The charity asks people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone the event raised over £27million.
Cllr Gawthrope said: “Macmillan is an excellent charity doing essential work to support people with cancer across the country.
“I know there will be many other coffee mornings taking place across Cambridge and I wish all the organisers and participants an enjoyable time. If I am invited to attend any other coffee mornings then I will do my best to pop by.
“Everyone taking part is doing something to help those suffering from this awful disease which affects so many people and their loved ones. I am delighted to have been invited to take part in the coffee morning at Marshall and visiting Cambridge 105.”
