Summer programme gives residents the chance to get more active

RESIDENTS of all ages have the chance to get more active or try something new this summer, thanks to an exciting programme of activities from Cambridge City Council.
Among the sessions is a free summer fitness programme for girls and young women aged 11-18, aimed at helping keep younger people active across the summer holiday period. The fun sessions take place every Tuesday from 4pm-5pm at Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre, and people can register by contacting email@example.com
The council’s Active Lifestyles team will also be running sessions in sports and activities such as athletics, table tennis, skateboarding, multisports and scooters at the free SummerDaze ‘Big Wednesday’ events for children and families at:
- Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre, Green End Road, 1pm-3pm, Wednesday 9 August;
- Jesus Green, near the play park, 1pm-3pm, Wednesday 16 August;
- Cherry Hinton Hall, near the play park, 1pm-3pm, Wednesday 23 August.
In addition, several other free sporting opportunities are available to residents and visitors, including the table tennis tables installed at parks and other locations as part of the nationwide Ping! Project.
There are also 18 free-to-use public tennis courts around the city, free outdoor fitness equipment in several parks, and marked circular walking and running routes at Coldham’s Common, Cherry Hinton Hall, Jesus Green and Midsummer Common.
Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Summer is a great time of year for residents to get out and get involved with enjoyable recreation, sports and fitness activities.
“There are activities available for everyone in the city – whether you’re looking to get back to being more active or already take part regularly. They all offer the chance for people to feel the benefits of adding a little more activity to their routine in welcoming, supportive surroundings.
“The council is committed to giving everyone in the city the opportunity to take part in activities and exercises, as being active is one of the keys to improving our physical and mental wellbeing.”
