Apply for a key worker or city centre worker permit

Cambridge City Council has been providing free parking in our multi-storey car parks for key workers since March when the lockdown came into force. This has been extended until August under a temporary public sector key worker permit system.

City centre workers who are not public sector key workers will be able to apply for a heavily discounted monthly city centre worker permit.

Due to its central location and the potential increase in congestion that discounted parking may cause, the new permits do not apply to the Grand Arcade car park.

Public sector key workers permit (free)

This permit provides free 24/7 parking for public sector key workers until the end of August 2020, across our multi-storey car parks (excluding the Grand Arcade).

Public sector key workers include staff in the NHS, social care, police, Crown Prosecution Service, Outreach Teams, dentists, and Cambridge City Council.

To be eligible, either:

  • you are an individual applicant employed by the state or 3rd sector, or by a voluntary or community organisation; or
  • if you represent an organisation, this must be a public or 3rd sector, voluntary, or community organisation

Once you have completed your application, please email it to

If you or your organisation are eligible, permits under the new categorisation can be issued by email.

Parking discounts are to be reviewed at end of August 2020.

City centre worker permit (paid)

The new 'City centre worker' permit provides discounted parking across our multi-storey car parks (excluding the Grand Arcade). It will be valid 24/7 to allow for shift and weekend working.

This permit is aimed at those who are not public sector key workers but who work in the city centre, to allow them to access their workplace while avoiding public transport, as recommended by government.

This new permit will sit alongside the other season tickets available.

Applications can be made by businesses (employers) or by the individual member of staff. For the latter, we ask that applications are attached to a headed email.

The cost is £10.50 per day for a 5-day working week over 4 weeks. This is a monthly cost of £210. The permit will be a renewable on a monthly basis to help make the cost more manageable.

We have two forms below, one for individuals and one for businesses. Please ensure you use the correct form, and when complete, please email a copy to

This discount will be reviewed at end of August.
