In this senior role in our dynamic organisation, you’ll play a key part in helping us to drive change and harness different ways of working to achieve more for less.
You’ll lead on the transformation and development of the Estates and Facilities Service with a focus on increasing efficiency and value for money by improving service performance. An inspirational manager, skilled in engaging staff to deliver on their objectives and embrace change, you’ll ensure that staff are engaged and supported, customers are consulted and the Council achieves its potential.
You’ll come to us with a proven track record of operating at a senior level, including managing complex and varied stakeholder relationships effectively. You’ll be skilled in leading and transforming front-line operational services, ideally within construction or related area. A background in facilities management will be vital. Strong on the delivery of major projects and programmes, you will bring experience of sound financial management, including managing budgets and achieving efficiencies through procurement.

Key services and responsibilities
- Office accommodation – Supporting our office accommodation rationalisation with technical expertise, and the procurement and management of contracts for refurbishment and conversion of properties
- Corporate property – Supporting our Corporate Property team with surveying expertise, contract management etc in relation to our large commercial property portfolio, and our other Council assets such as Community Centres. Strong focus on legislative compliance
- Facilities management – Managing our office buildings throughout Cambridge, ensuring compliance, safety, repair and day to day FM
- Housing asset management – Maintaining our asset database and asset management plan; contributing to regular updates of our HRA Business Plan; planning major repairs programmes, procuring and managing contracts, etc
Planned maintenance - In house delivery of some planned maintenance programmes
Responsive repairs – Reactive works in tenants’ homes. This service works closely with the customer service centre; who take the tenants calls. We need to continue to modernise our delivery, for example with more work carried out by appointment.
Voids (including lettings) – Managing the voids process on a key-to-key basis
Disabled adaptations – Delivering adaptations to our properties in co-operation with Occupational therapists
Commercial team - Carry out work for other parts of the Council and are now engaged in small scale building of new homes
Corporate health and safety and emergency planning - This team of two leads on these areas for South Cambridgeshire as well as for Cambridge city.
