Making Space for People: Vision, Aims and Objectives and Strategies consultation

Consultation open from 2 September to 5pm on 14 October 2019.

We are developing a Making Space for People supplementary planning document (SPD) for Cambridge.

The SPD will be used to prioritise the delivery of improvements to key public spaces. It will also identify improvements to key streets and improve the walking and cycling network.

The SPD will create a framework to improve the streets and spaces in central Cambridge. It will do this by encouraging more sustainable transport options, safeguarding the character of existing spaces, and identifying opportunities for new uses of space.

We are seeking your views on our Central Cambridge Vision, Aims and Objectives and Strategies document. The document sets out our ‘vision’ for central Cambridge, and the principles and strategies which could underpin the future SPD.

This project is being funded by the Greater Cambridge Partnership.

Consultation information

This consultation is your opportunity to say how we can improve the streets and spaces of central Cambridge.

Please read the vision document and its associated documents, then tell us what you think:

Use our online feedback form to send us your comments. There is also a downloadable feedback form [PDF, 150KB] if you prefer to post your comments to us.

If you have any questions about the consultation, contact our Planning Policy team at policysurveys@cambridge.gov.uk or 01223 347200.

Events

We will be holding two exhibition events where you can read about the project and the document, as well as speak to members of the project team.

Next steps

The draft Making Space for People SPD will be prepared following the outcome of the consultation of this document as well as further consultation undertaken by the Greater Cambridge Partnership on wider city access measures.

We anticipate that the draft SPD will be published for public consultation in late 2020, after the representations from both consultations have been considered.

When adopted, the SPD will be a material planning consideration for proposed developments in central Cambridge. It will provide further detail to a number of the local plan policies and opportunity areas identified in the plan.

Previous engagement

Earlier in the process of preparing the document, we asked how you think local streets and open spaces could be improved.

We received many comments, which you can view online. Thank you to everybody who took the time to share your thoughts and ideas.

We held open days in June and July 2018, where you could discuss the project with us.
