Consultation open from 18 February to 23.59pm on 4 March 2022.
The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 provides that in respect of the charges for Hackney Carriages, we “may fix the rates or fares within the district as well for time as distance, and all other charges in connection with the hire of a vehicle…by means of a table.”
Fares comprise charges for:
- distance travelled (three tariffs, depending on time of day and day of the week)
- waiting time
- extra charges, which include:
- journeys with five or more passengers
- bicycles not able to put in the luggage compartment
- a potential fuel surcharge
- a vehicle unfit to continue working charge
Fare changes
We propose to make the following table of Hackney Carriage fares [PDF, 0.1MB] applicable to the hire of Hackney Carriages within the City of Cambridge with effect from 1 April 2022.
There is a proposed fare increase of 5.5% on the base fare across main tariffs.
The increase is based on the Consumer Price Index rate on 16 February 2022, and then rounded to a practical figure.
In accordance with the statutory procedure set out in Section 6 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, we are required to undertake public consultation prior to making any amendment to the Hackney Carriage table of fares.
