1. Members of the subcommittee do not regard the support given to this scheme as prejudicing the determination of any applications which come forward for the redevelopment of Sedley Infant School or Romsey Junior Community School. In particular members wished the County Council to be advised to consider the potential for use of the these other sites to fulfil the need for additional pre-school/nursery provision in the area.
2. In considering the provision of a School Travel Plan as recommended by condition 15, particular consideration should be given to the provision of a safe crossing on Radegund Road, to be funded as part of the development, in accordance with the ‘Safer Routes to School’ initiative.
3. In the light of the fact that development is likely to be taking place on the site, members would encourage consideration of the proposed Sports Hall being brought forward so that its development can occur at the same time, in the interests of reducing adverse effects on residential amenity and other impacts.
4. Although no objection is raised to the proposed development, members wished their concerns about the absence of compensatory community benefits in the light of the loss of playing fields to be passed to the County Council.
