- give free advice to citizens on the repair, restoration and alteration of historic buildings,
- advise on the likelihood of buildings being listed, and assess the suitability of proposed works to buildings which are listed,
- advise on the management of complex historic buildings through conservation plans / services strategies and help owners reconcile historic buildings,
- propose areas to be designated as conservation areas and produce appraisal / management documents for existing conservation areas,
- advise on possible grant aid for historic building projects and run grant schemes for historic buildings and areas, and
- encourage interest in the city and its buildings through talks, the production of information leaflets and through the Blue Plaques and David Urwin Award Schemes.
