Public art in Fisher Square

Cambridge benefits from a wide range of art in public areas which make an important contribution to the character and visual qualities of the city.

Cambridge is lucky enough to boast work in a wide range of styles and media by artists as famous as Henry Moore.

The newest addition, a sculpture by Peter Randall-Page, can be found just outside Lion Yard in Fisher Square.

Policy

The council has a ‘Percent for Art’ policy which requires the provision of public art within new developments. This is part of the Public Art Supplementary Document (SPD) adopted in January 2010 that supports the Local Plan.

Go to our Public Art Supplementary Planning Document page for more information.

The purpose of the Public Art Strategy and the SPD is to:

  • encourage excellence and innovation in the commissioning and implementation of public art
  • put artists at the ‘heart’ of the public art process
  • provide practical information on how a developer may meet and respond to the council’s policy on public art.

The SPD includes a framework for art in Cambridge, which will set out broad principles for a cohesive commissioning programme by the council.
