Public art in Fisher Square

Cambridge benefits from a wide range of art in public areas which make an important contribution to the character and visual qualities of the city.

Cambridge is lucky enough to boast work in a wide range of styles and media by artists as famous as Henry Moore.

The newest addition, a sculpture by Peter Randall-Page, can be found just outside Lion Yard in Fisher Square.

Policy

The council has a ‘Percent for Art’ policy which requires the provision of public art within new developments.

Our current public art policy is being reviewed and a new Public Art Strategy and Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) are currently being prepared.

The purpose of the Public Art Strategy and the SPD is:

  • To encourage excellence and innovation in the commissioning and implementation of public art
  • To put artists at the ‘heart’ of the public art process
  • To provide practical information on how a developer may meet and respond to the Council’s policy on public art

The SPD will include a framework for art in Cambridge, which will set out broad principles for a cohesive commissioning programme by the council.
