Cambridge is growing in order to meet high local demand for housing and to help our local economy to continue to prosper.
The city council has plans for sustainable levels of new homes, supported by improvements to local infrastructure. There is a clear focus on high quality design. We want to make sure that both existing and new residents benefit from the city’s growth and enjoy a high quality of life.
Further information on planning applications in the southern fringe and the north west fringe is available on the growth area application pages.
There are many opportunities for you to get involved and have your say in shaping the future of this wonderful city. For more information about why Cambridge needs to grow, the plans and preparations for growth and the progress being made, see Find out more.
Most of the new homes will form part of new neighbourhoods (for example, on Cambridge's southern and north west fringes). The area around Cambridge station is also being regenerated. Read more about the growth sites.
