Community Development
Voluntary groups can apply for grants to run activities and services which enable residents to participate in their communities, and access advice and information.
Leisure, Sports & Arts
Voluntary groups can apply for grants to improve opportunities for residents, especially those who are disadvantaged, to participate in arts, sports and cultural activities.
Area Committees
Neighbourhood groups can apply to their local area committee (North, South, East and West Central) for grants to run community development or leisure activities which benefit residents in their area.
Area Committee environmental improvement schemes
If you are an individual or a group of residents who would like to make a lasting and noticeable environmental improvement to your street or neighbourhood for example, a traffic calming scheme or refurbishing areas of paving and planting please discuss your ideas with Dinah Foley Norman, Principal Landscape Architect on 457134 or dinah.foley-norman@cambridge.gov.uk.
Disability Access Fund
For community and voluntary organisations to improve the accessibility of their premises for disabled people.
Economic Policy
Grants to help voluntary and not-for-profit organisations that target people facing barriers to employment and training.
Sustainable City
Grants to help local organisations whose work will bring environmental and community benefits.
Historic Buildings
Grants for buildings, listed or not, which are of architectural or historical interest.
Council Residents'Associations

Tenants' Initiative Scheme
The Tenants’ Initiative Scheme gives residents a chance to get a grant from the Council to make improvements to their estates and neighbourhoods. The maximum grant is £7000, and successful bids have included flowerbeds, bike sheds, seating, security improvements and play equipment
Safer City
Safer city grants are intended to support projects that will reduce crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.
Business Rate Relief - mandatory
Local authorities which collect business rates, must grant rate relief of 80% - mandatory relief - to registered charities and to community amateur sports clubs (CASCs), resident in their area, on their premises.
Business Rate Relief - discretionary
Local authorities may also provide rate relief on part or all of the remaining costs of business rates – discretionary rate relief. Local authorities are also empowered to grant discretionary relief of up to 100% to non-profit-making organisations which are not registered charities but have been set up for recreational, charitable, philanthropic, educational, cultural or religious purposes.
