Council performance

Council performance introduction -- Comprehensive Area Assessment and Performance Indicators

Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA)

The Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) which looked at the performance of individual Councils was replaced in April 2009 by the Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA), which looks at how well all public bodies in an area work together to meet local priorities, and how well they use the resources available to them.

Performance Indicators

The council regularly monitors its performance against a selection of national and local performance indicators. This enables officers and councillors to make decisions about how best to use resources and improve service delivery.

Service plans

All council services produce a service plan before the start of each financial year. These plans set out what each service aims to achieve in the coming year and how the service contributes to the Council's Medium Term Objectives.

Service plan reviews

Every October services do a mid-year review of progress against the aims and objectives in their service plans.  They also review performance against the performance indicators for their services and forecast performance for the financial year end in the following March.

Best value

Before 2009 the council produced an annual Best Value Performance Plan which showed how the Council performed against its objectives and a number of performance indicators.  For further information about best value and copies of previous plans please see our Best Value page.
