The Council wants to deliver high quality services in a fair and equal way to all sections of the community. In a report by the Audit Commission in 2004, Cambridge City Council was assessed to be an "excellent" local authority. The following headings show the main areas of Council performance.
Best Value
The Council has a duty to review its services to ensure that they continue to improve. It also produces a Best Value Performance Plan 2008 which shows how the Council is performing against its objectives and a number of performance indicators, and how it plans to develop and improve services. For further information about Best Value please see our Best Value page.
Each year our Best Value Performance Plan is audited by external auditors. A copy of the Statutory Audit Report for 2006/07 can be accessed here (PDF 130 Kbytes) .
Comprehensive Performance Assessment
Comprehensive Performance Assessment aims to help Councils improve the services they deliver by examining the standard of services and their plans for the future, the leadership and focus of senior management and councillors, and the Council’s financial arrangements.
The Council has to produce a Comprehensive Performance Assessment Improvement Plan to show how it will work to improve any areas of weakness identified by the assessment and set out what it's priority areas for improvement are in the future.
Service Plans
All Council services produce a Service Plan before the start of each financial year. These plans set out what each service aims to achieve in the coming year and how the service contributes to the Council's Medium Term Objectives. Service Plans are published in the Council's Best Value Performance Plan.
Performance Indicators
The Council regularly monitors its performance against a selection of national and local performance indicators. This enables officers and councillors to make decisions about how best to use resources and improve service delivery.
