Area committees provide the opportunity for you to give your views and ideas for improving community life in your neighbourhood.
We are looking to make our meetings more welcoming and enjoyable, and will be launching a pilot for the North Area Committee shortly to try out new approaches.
In the meantime our area committee chairs will be looking to prepare interesting agenda and want to listen to what you have to say.
Find out about your local councillors and area committee meetings:
- East Area Committee, which includes Abbey, Coleridge, Petersfield and Romsey wards
- North Area Committee, which includes Arbury, East Chesterton, King's Hedges and West Chesterton wards
- South Area Committee, which includes Cherry Hinton, Queen Edith's and Trumpington wards
- West/Central Area Committee, which includes Castle, Market and Newnham wards
Meetings
Our area committee meetings include an open forum session, where you can simply turn up and have your say about something that concerns you, and a more structured session guided by an agenda, where decisions are taken about a range of matters including local planning applications.
Have your say
You can just turn up and have your say during the open forum session of an area committee meeting, but notification in advance is also welcome.
If you wish to speak about an agenda item other than planning, you should ideally tell the Committee Manager or a Community Development Officer before the meeting starts, to allow the chair of the meeting to give you enough time to speak.
Planning items
Anyone wishing to speak about planning applications may do so provided that they have made a representation in writing within the consultation period, and have notified the Committee Manager by midday on the day before the meeting of the area committee.
Proxy
You do not have to attend a meeting for the committee to consider what you want to say: you can ask the Committee Manager to raise an issue on your behalf.
You will then receive a response telling you what can be done, and when.
Petitions
We welcome public petitions: find out more about our public petition scheme.
How you can make a difference
- Apply for funding for improvements to your community, to help disadvantaged residents, or to make environmental improvements.
- Policing priorities are discussed at every other meeting: find out more about policing and safer neighbourhoods and E-Cops.
- You can also find out about events in your neighbourhood or read community newsletters about where you live.
