We are committed to extending the participation of local people in our decision making and increasing the influence local people have over issues in their communities.
Every councillor sits on a number of committees and helps make or review decisions on behalf of the council.
Regulatory committees make decisions that the executive councillors are not allowed to make, while decisions that they have made are reviewed by scrutiny committees.
Find out more about these committees and how you can have your say at meetings. A guide to city council decisions is available.
Area committees bring the council's decision-making into local communities and give local people the opportunity of voicing their views and ideas about how to improve community life.
Filming, recording and photography
We are committed to being open and transparent in the way it conducts its decision making. Recording is permitted at council meetings which are open to the public.
We understand that some members of the public attending its meetings may not wish to be recorded: the chair of the meeting will facilitate by ensuring that any such request not to be recorded is respected by those doing the recording.
