Post Office closures consultation

Post box The consultation period, during which there was the opportunity of commenting on the Network Change Programme put forward by Post Office Limited, has now concluded (26 August 2008). The Council wanted as many people as possible to "have a say" about propsed post office closures in the City and to send informed responses to Post Office Limited (POL). Thank you if you took the trouble of putting your views forwards. The City Council has submitted its own response, based on available data and views expressed at a public consultation event held in the City on 11 August, stating that the existing post office network in the City should be retained and supplemented.

Responses will now be looked at by POL and the independent consumer body Postwatch over the following month. We hope to hear the outcome of these deliberations shortly thereafter.

You can find out more information about work at a county level  (lead by Cambridgeshire ACRE), including the Branch Access Reports for each sub-post office, and more information on Post Office Limited's Network Change Programme.

Background to the consultation

Post Office Limited has announced the post offices in the city that are expected to close in the autumn. Publication of the list triggers a public consultation period during which members of the public and community groups and organisations will have a chance to put forward reasons to keep their local office open. The consultation runs until 26 August 2008.

The offices recommended for closure in Cambridge are:

  • 33 Regent Street
  • 2a Trumpington Street
  • St John’s Post Office, Hills Road

The City Council is supporting Cambridgeshire Together's work in responding to Post Office Limited's Network Change Programme.
