Cambridge Climate Change Charter

A voluntary pledge made by Cambridge organisations to address the issues of climate change.

Presentation of the charter

The Cambridge Climate Change Charter is a voluntary pledge to address the issues of climate change. It represents a high-level, broad statement of commitment that any Cambridge organisation can make publicly.

The charter is designed to be signed by the leaders of Cambridge organisations, such as chairs, chief executives, school principals, managing directors or university vice-chancellors.

The benefits of signing

Addressing the causes and consequences of climate change will not only contribute towards to the long-term security and prosperity of Cambridge, but can also add value to the economic, marketing, education or social responsibility activities of supporting organisations. The signing itself can be used as a publicity opportunity and the charter is meant to be framed and displayed somewhere prominent.

What to do if your organisation wants to sign the charter

Please complete a copy of the supporter registration document to confirm your organisation's support for the charter and email to sustainablecity@cambridge.gov.uk.

A high resolution copy of the charter can also be provided for your organsiation to print, sign and put on public display. To discuss further arrangements for signing the charter please contact the our climate change officer on 01223 457189.

Your commitment

Signing the charter commits organisations to developing action plans to ensure their good intentions turn into reality. Many of the actions which organisations will need to take are very similar, and additional benefits may be gained by organisations taking action together. After signing the charter, contact us to ensure that your organisation becomes involved in and benefits from ongoing partnership working.

A formal monitoring process is not currently in place, and as the charter is non-statutory there are no sanctions if an organisation has not delivered on a particular commitment.

However, you are encouraged to set targets and publicise your achievements in order to maintain momentum and to motivate both staff and the community. If you have any interesting updates then please contact us at sustainablecity@cambridge.gov.uk
