The Cambridge Development Strategy will set out the planning framework to guide the future development of Cambridge.

It will set out the strategic elements of the Cambridge Local Development Framework, which will eventually replace the Cambridge Local Plan, setting the vision for the future of Cambridge, the general locations of developments, policy objectives and higher-level policies to guide development planning.

The first stage in the preparation of the Cambridge Development Strategy is the Issues and Options Report, which examines a number of key issues such as climate change, housing and accessibility and the options available for tackling them.

How to have your say

Planning plays an essential role in shaping the places where we all live, work and play and for this reason everyone should have the opportunity to get involved in planning for the future of Cambridge.

To this end, the Cambridge Development Strategy and its associated sustainability appraisal was made available for consultation during the six-week period from 11 June to 23 July 2007. Please see the formal notice of consultation.

To view the representations received to the issues and options report please follow the link to our interactive Local Development Framework website.

The highlighted magnifying glass icon next to each section of the report indicates that representations have been made to that section - click on this icon to view summaries of these representations.

Please note that you do not need to register to view representations. Officers are still processing the representations received, so not all representations will be available to view.

You can also download the Issues and Options Report and purchase a copy of the document for £5 (not including postage and packing) - telephone 01223 457200 for more details.

The deadline for receipt of response forms was 5pm Monday 23 July 2007.

The Sustainability Appraisal

The Cambridge Development Strategy issues and options report was subject to a sustainability appraisal in order to ensure that the issues and options could be considered in light of information on their social, environmental and economic impacts.

The Sustainability Appraisal, which was produced by independent consultants, was also made available for consultation at the same time as the Issues and Options Report.

You can download the Sustainability Appraisal or purchase a copy of the document at a cost of £20 (not including postage and packing) - please telephone 01223 457200 for more details.

Supporting documents

The Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report was produced in order to assist in the preparation of the Issues and Options Report. Pleae note that due to the size of the file, this version does not include maps.

The report is also available to purchase at a cost of £5 (not including postage and packing) - telephone 01223 457200 for more details.

A number of further studies have been identified in the issues and options report as being required in order to provide an evidence base to inform the way forward on a number of issues such as housing and employment.

When these studies are completed they will be made available on this website.

The Sustainable Community Strategy

The Cambridge Development Strategy needs to be closely linked to the Sustainable Community Strategy for Cambridge, a document produced by the Local Strategic Partnership, a body made up of leading agencies such as the city council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Primary Care Trust and Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

This document will set out an overall vision for Cambridge, identify issues that the partnership wishes to see addressed and set a small number of priority areas for action.

The Sustainable Community Strategy is currently being reviewed.

What happens next

Following on from consultation on the Issues and Options Report, we are currently in the processing of drafting an informal preferred options report. This report will be made available for public consultation later in 2009.
