Population statistics

There are two sources for estimates of population:

(i) From the Office for National Statistics (ONS) mid-2010 estimates which should be used for official returns, bid documents or other instances where an "official" figure is required. This year ONS have done some work on improving the accuracy of their mid-year estimates by improving the distribution of international migrant figures accross the UK - this means that the ONS figure is now closer to Cambridgeshire County Council's calculations.

(ii) From Cambridgeshire County Council which calculate the figure in a slightly different way. These figures tend to be more in line with actual count census figures so would be recommended if you do not need an official figure.
