Our experienced Historic Environment team provides advice on the conservation aspects of the city's built environment.
Although much of our work is involved with the development control process, we also:
- give free advice to citizens on the repair, restoration and alteration of historic buildings, advise on the likelihood of buildings being listed, and assess the suitability of proposed works to listed buildings
- advise on the management of complex historic buildings through conservation plans and services strategies and help owners reconcile historic buildings
- propose areas to be designated as conservation areas and produce appraisal and management documents for existing conservation areas
- advise on possible grant aid for historic building projects and run grant schemes for historic buildings and areas
- encourage interest in the city and its buildings through talks, the production of information leaflets and through the blue plaques scheme and David Urwin award scheme
