Outcome of ballot on review of pay, terms and conditions

14 February 2012

Like many other local councils, the city council has been reviewing the pay, terms and conditions of its workforce, and the trade unions have recently balloted their members on acceptance or rejection of the proposed package.

Antoinette Jackson, the Chief Executive, said: “The main reason for doing this review has been to make sure we have fair and equal terms and conditions for all staff. The recognised trade unions, Unison and the GMB, have been fully engaged with us in negotiations on these issues and have just undertaken a ballot of their members.

“We are very pleased that members of both trade unions have voted to accept the proposed package and will now move forward to implement changes to staff terms and conditions from June 2012.

“I would like to thank the trade unions for the work that they have undertaken with the council over a number of months, which has enabled us to achieve this change by collective agreement.”

The proposals have not been designed to achieve savings and will be cost neutral over a five-year period.
