City council promotes '2012 - A year of celebrations'

22 February 2012

The city council has launched a new webpage to assist local residents and groups planning to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympic Games and the Paralympics Games.

The page can be found at cambridge.gov.uk/organising-celebrations and covers new guidance from Cambridgeshire ACRE, as well as advice on where funding can be found to support celebrations.

Councillor Rod Cantrill, the Executive Councillor for Arts, Sports and Public Places, said: “2012 is a very special year and Cambridge has a strong tradition of local community events to mark national celebrations.

“The city council wants to do all it can to support a wide range of resident activities from street parties to tree planting.

“We hope that local groups will come forward for funding for such events. We have allocated over £80,000 of small grant funding at Area Committee level to support these celebrations.”
