A taxi workshop has been arranged in response to concerns raised about the number and location of taxi ranks in Cambridge and the over-ranking in St Andrews Street.
The objective of the workshop, which is being held on 18 June, is to allow participants to raise their issues, concerns and ideas in an open and constructive manner with a view to obtaining a number of potential workable solutions.
The meeting will involve individuals from a wide sector of the community, including the taxi trade, Stagecoach, local businesses, the police, university and representatives of cyclists and parking enforcement. City and county councillors and officers will also be in attendance.
The meeting will be facilitated by Love Cambridge.
Cambridge city councillor Mike Pitt said: "The workshop gives us an opportunity to work together to improve on the current situation. I am keen to work with all interested parties to try and find alternatives that are viable for the taxi trade and reflect the interests of all those who use the city centre."
Councillor Mike Dixon, chair of the licensing committee and councillor for Market ward, said: "I have already met some representatives of the hackney carriage trade, and I am aware of their suggestions for improvement. I am pleased there is now to be a wider meeting including officers from the county council and I look forward to some resolution of the problems."
