We have a Noise Action Day winner

News release from 20 June 2008

Sam Rowbotham of Arbury was the winner of a Sony MP3 player given away by Cambridge City Council's Environmental Protection Team for guessing the 'mystery sound' during Noise Action Week (19–25 May 2008).

The sound was correctly identified as a CD-Rom drive mechanism of a PC. Other common guesses were shredders, printers and fax machines.

The competition was part of Noise Action Week, a national initiative to raise awareness of the problems caused by noise, as well as the solutions available to tackle it and was held at City Homes North and South Offices.

"It was a great way of raising noise issues in the city and having a bit of fun guessing a mystery sound!" says Technical Officer Ben Walther.

Councillor Colin Rosenstiel, Executive Councillor for Environmental Services, said "The Council is keen to assist residents in resolving noise problems, if necessary by taking formal action where other methods have not been successful".

Cambridge residents who would like advice on how to solve a noise problem can contact Ben at Environmental Services on 01223 457890.
