Cambridge City Council is launching its first truly green vehicle with the aim of achieving a practical means of reducing carbon dioxide and exhaust pollution within the city centre. The new "Mega" van offers real environmental benefits for the City and is proof that the Council cares for the quality of the local environment.
The Mega vehicle has been chosen for its flexibility and reliability, after an overnight charge the vehicle is able to move about the city, clean exhaust free and silent all day. This ultra light vehicle is both pleasant to drive and easy on the environment.
Colin Rosenstiel, Executive Councillor for Environmental Services, is very pleased that we are able to take this step to improve the environment. Colin said: "It is vital that we all take measures to reduce our carbon footprint, I am keen to promote Cambridge as a sustainable city and this vehicle will help to improve the quality of the local environment for our Residents."
Dave Coventry, Head of Streetscene at Cambridge City said. "We are keen to reduce the impact of services on the local environment. The unseasonably milder winters are a clear reminder to do our bit to save the environment. I believe that this is one small step that will help to make a difference".
