A tea dance - with a twist!

News release from 27 May 2008

Cambridge Sustainable City invites you to a tea dance at the Meadows Community Centre on Saturday 31st May.

From 7pm until 11pm, dance to your favourite tunes played by organist Mary Cubley. Volunteers from Magnificent Revolution (the people behind the cycle-powered cinema) will pedal a static bike to generate the electricity for the organ.

Helen Witherington, Environment Publicity & Projects Officer said, "We know that tea dances are becoming more popular, so we wanted to include one in the Environment Festival programme. The use of a bike to power the music is just a demonstration of the possible alternative power sources available to us, if we just apply a little imagination - and technical expertise!"

Tea dancers will receive a goody bag containing amongst other things, low energy light bulbs, a cotton shopping bag and Fairtrade teabags.

Tickets cost £5 per person (price includes Fairtrade tea and coffee, and entry into a raffle to win environment-related prizes). To book your ticket, please call Eve Dziura on 01223 508140.
